| COINCIDENT DEEP SEISMIC REFRACTION AND REFLECTION STUDIES IN A NORTHERN SEGMENT OF SOUTHERN GRANULITE TERRAIN, INDIA | ||

MS 977, Menlo Park, CA 94025 The Southern Granulite Terrain of India is one of the few terrains in the world that has preserved Archean crust with extensive granulites, believed to be of lower-crustal origin. The region is a mosaic of high-grade granulite massifs with shear zones in between. Such a terrain provides ample opportunity to understand the nature of the deep continental crust, as well as the geological processes involved in the formation and evolution of the area itself. A coincident deep seismic reflection and refraction/wide-angle reflection experiment was carried out, along a 300-km-long transect in the Southern Granulite Terrain (SGT). The aim of the study is to provide velocity structure from refraction/wide-angle reflection data, and a reflectivity pattern from reflection data. The transect covers important geological units and tectonic elements of the region. | ||
