MERCURY IN COAL - PRECOMBUSTION MANAGEMENT OPTIONS FOR EMISSION CONTROL

TOOLE O'NEIL, Barbara, Tetra Tech EM Inc, 135 Main St, Suite 1800, San Francisco, CA 94105, barbara.tooleoneil@ttemi.com

Coal accounts for 52% of the power generated in the United States. Research for mercury controls in light of pending new regulations to control mercury from these power plants, has focused on post-combustion controls. This paper will review mercury concentrations in coal used in the United States and discuss the potential for pre-combustion management as part of a compliance plan.
