HISTORIC GLACIER PHOTOGRAPHS AT THE NATIONAL SNOW AND ICE DATA CENTER: ONLINE GLACIER PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTION
|
HOWARD, Allaina M., University of Colorado/CIRES, National Snow and Ice Data Center, 449UCB, Boulder, CO 80309, alhoward@nsidc.org The National Snow and Ice Data Center maintains an analog archives of historic glacier photographs spanning 120 years. In 2001 NSIDC, through the auspices of the NOAA/CDMP program, began digitizing these materials and making them available via the web. Interest in and use of these materials increased dramatically as a result. The addition of paired photographs showing glacier change over time has further increased interest in this collection. This presentation will discuss the holdings of both the analog and digital collections with special emphasis on the online glacier photograph database.
