In order to evaluate of distribution properties of heavy metals related to time of waste disposal site in West Sea, Korea, mineralogical properties, relationship between heavy metal and mean grain size, relationship between heavy metal and Al, enrichment factor and sedimentation rate were analyzed. Enrichment factor of Zn from heavy metals is more than 1 at all station and Cr is more than 1 at station W01, W06 and W07. Especially, Enrichment factor of Pb is more than 2 and highest value at the station W02 (5.83). Generally, clay minerals in the West Sea sediments are all of terrigenous origin and composed primarily of illite (generally more than 60%), and subordinately of chlorite, smectite, and kaolinite. Clay minerals in the study area are composed primarily of illite, and subordinately of chlorite, smectite, and kaolinite, and its result coincide with previous study. The relationship between concentration of heavy metals and mean grain size and loss on ignition and mean grain size are lower compared to its general tendency. Also, the relationship between distribution properties of heavy metals except for Cd and Al at lower sediments shows a high correlation more than 0.6. On the other hand, the relationship between distribution properties of heavy metals and Al at surface sediment shows low correlation. This result indicate that heavy metal at lower sediments is controlled by clay mineral of terrigenous origin like illite, but heavy metal at upper sediments is controlled another factor. It seems to be interpreted influence to dump wastes continuously. Sedimentation rate calculated by 210Pb at study area is 1.87mm/yr. According to the result of heavy metal enrichment related time, enrichment of heavy metals of study area have influenced inflow of waste since 1994 and rapidly increased after 1999.
