Primary Leader: Joanna Wright
Field Trip Description: A one day fieldtrip through late Paleozoic to Mesozoic terrestrial paleoenvironments of the Front Range west of Denver. These sediments comprise a transgressive-regressive sedimentary cycle starting with the uplift of the ancestral Rocky Mountains in the mid-late Paleozoic through the fluvial sediments of the Morrison, the marginal marine and coastal deposits of the Dakota Sandstone, and the fluvial deposits of the latest Cretaceous Laramie Formation. Participants will visit some classic fossil bone and footprint localities, including one of Arthur Lakes’ historic quarries and the site of the only known ceratopsian trackways.
