1:00 PM-2:00 PM, George R. Brown Convention Center:

Upper Cambrian through lower Ordovician rocks of the Llano Region

Primary Leader: Emilio Mutis-Duplat
Leader(s): Robert C. Trentham, Emily Stoudt
Field Trip Description: The central Texas fieldtrip (Kerrville headquarters) is designed to introduce participants to the upper Cambrian to lower Ordovician sequence in the Llano Region of Texas. Visiting well-exposed and readily accessible outcrop stops, we will be able to view all members of the upper Cambrian Riley and Wilberns Formations and the lower Ordovician Ellenburger Formation. Most of the outcrops visited have never been observed by geologists that have not done fieldwork in the Llano Region; Mason County in particular. We will look at excellent examples of stromatolitic calcareous algal reef complexes in the upper Cambrian and nonreefal carbonates that display beautiful examples of cyclic sedimentation and storm deposits. On the night before the fieldtrip starts we will look at cores from the lower Paleozoic units.
Field Trip will span: 3 days
Sponsor(s): West Texas Geological Society
