8:00 AM-4:00 PM, McAlester, Oklahoma:

CANCELED: Sequence Stratigraphy and Reservoir Characteristics of the Booch Sandstones, McAlester Formation (Desmoinesian), Arkoma Basin, Oklahoma

Primary Leader: Neil H. Suneson
Leader(s): Rick Andrews, Dan T. Boyd
Field Trip Description: The Booch sandstones (McAlester Formation, Desmoinesian) are prolific gas producers in the Arkoma Basin and oil producers on the Cherokee Shelf. This field trip will examine key outcrops of the unit and interpret the depositional environment of the strata based on lithologies, sedimentary structures, stratal disconformities, and textural changes. We will compare gamma-ray profiles of the outcrops with nearby gamma-ray logs in order to put a "face" on subsurface wireline signatures. And finally, the logs and outcrops will be placed in a sequence-stratigraphic framework for the entire Booch interval. If time allows, we will also visit important exposures of the underlying Hartshorne Formation and overlying Savanna Formation.
Field Trip will span: 2 days
Sponsor(s): Oklahoma Geological Survey
