CANCELED: Hands On at IODP's Gulf Coast Repository -- Authentic Scientific Ocean Drilling Samples and Data for Earth Systems Science Inquiry

| Field Trip Description: Participants will be transported from Houston to the Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) at Texas A & M University in College Station, a distance of 90 miles, for a full day of hands-on open and guided inquiry with cores and data highlighting major results from the scientific ocean drilling programs (DSDP, ODP, and IODP). The proximity of the GCR coupled with the depth and breadth of the collection offer an unprecedented opportunity for GSA attendees to study and sample a variety of ocean cores during the conference, and to field test lab and classroom activities designed specifically for undergraduate and upper level secondary students. As new paleoclimate and ocean crust resources will be introduced, this field trip is suitable for past IODP and School of Rock participants. Meals and materials will be provided. |
