| Field Trip Description: In the morning, participants will look at the development of hybrid rice at the state of the art facilities of Rice Tec located at Alvin Texas. RiceTec combines unique skills in rice farming, plant breeding and consumer marketing. RiceTec was founded on the premise that modern, technology-based breeding techniques combined with broad, diverse, germplasm collection, can efficiently develop and economically produce superior hybrid seed products, as well as specialty rice for consumers markets. Hybrid rice research and development work resulted in new hybrids being developed with the first hybrid seed sold in 1999 which is the first company in North and South America.
For lunch and in the afternoon, participants will be visiting the Mosaic Crop Nutrition Houston Warehouse, the Mosaic Company’s Channelview Sulfur Terminal, and the Cargill, Inc. Grain Export facility. During this tour participants will learn how the Mosaic Crop Nutrition Supply Chain supplies the Southwest and Central Plains with nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer, and animal feed ingredients. The Mosaic Company’s Sulfur Supply Chain team will detail how the Channelview Sulfur Terminal plays a key role in linking oilfields to cornfields. To close the tour The Mosaic Co. will present a current view of the global fertilizer situation. |
