HANDS-ON LESSONS AND DEMONSTRATIONS FOR THE CLASSROOM

This presentation will involve demonstrating how to complete practical earth science activities in the classroom to teach a series of earth science concepts. The activities can be done by upper elementary through high school students in a lab setting. The topics include chemical and mechanical weathering, mass movement, pH, acid rain, fossil formation, stratigraphy, allotropic crystals, formation of sedimentary limestone, and mapping. These labs have either been completed by high school sophomore Earth/Space Science students or upper elementary grade students attending a university program for children (Kid Kollege) at Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW).
