THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GRAIN SIZE VARIATION AND THE RETREAT OF THE LAURENTIDE ICE SHEET TAKEN FROM LAKE SUPERIOR CORE BH02-5P
|
GOLAB, James A., Geology, Mercyhurst College, RR4 Box 4610, Kunkletown, PA 18058, speedskier24@hotmail.com Laser diffraction grain size measurements with a Lake Superior sediment core generally decrease upsection through a series of 1,400 glaciolacustrine varves deposited between 10,400- 9,000 cal ybp. Thick varves are associated with an increase in grain size. This correlation is attributed to increased glacial runoff during climatic warming periods.
