Pardee Keynote Symposia
Pardee keynote symposia are special events that are of broad interest to the geoscience community. Topics appropriate for these sessions are those on the leading edge in a scientific discipline or area of public policy, which address broad fundamental problems, are interdisciplinary, or focus on global problems. Selection is on a competitive basis. The primary criteria are excellence and a good mix of topics that will be of interest to the GSA and Associated Society membership. Only four to eight half-day, non-concurrent sessions will be offered (minimum of one per day). All speakers will be invited. Funding from the Joseph T. Pardee Memorial Fund will provide up to $2,000 for each accepted keynote symposia to assist in bringing in the best speakers.
Proposals. Proposals must have a well formed plan, discuss the format of the session, include a tentative list of appropriate, effective speakers, and justify why the session should have a "Keynote" status. Any individual or geoscience organization is welcome to submit a proposal.
Please submit a separate form for each proposed session.
Deadline for submittals: 11:59 PM, Tuesday, 6 January 2009, (Pacific Standard Time)
This is a firm deadline.
NO proposals will be accepted after that date.
Web submission is required!
Review. After Tuesday, 6 January 2009, Pardee keynote symposia proposals will be reviewed by the Annual Program Committee (APC). Affiliation with a Division, Associated Society, or other group will not be a factor considered during the review process. In February, you will be contacted of the outcome. If your Pardee Keynote Symposia proposal becomes a session for the Minneapolis meeting, you will also be notified of the day and time the session will be held.
Scheduling. A minimum of one half-day session per day will be scheduled. Preferences based on other programmatic issues will be considered. However, in submitting a pardee keynote proposal, the convener (and any affiliated group) agrees that any half-day, Sunday through Wednesday, is acceptable. If a specific time slot is desired, please submit a proposal for a topical session instead. Commitment on time frame will be made by 30 March so that you may notify your speakers.
