WHITE, Lisa D., Geosciences, San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Ave, San Francisco, CA 94132, lwhite@sfsu.edu Decades of increasing representation by women and minorities in the geosciences have created an impression of unlimited possibilities for career advancement. Because the career progression of underrepresented minorities in the geosciences is often more varied, our ability to define, capture, and quantify their success is met with greater challenges. Successful strategies for career advancement in diverse groups of individuals will be examined, specifically the role of persistence, risk-taking, resiliency, and other related behavior often tied to achievement. An analysis of career-enhancing training for both students and professionals related to job progression and career satisfaction will be presented, and the value of direct professional experiences leading to hiring, promotion, and career retention career trends will be presented and analyzed. | ||
