MMS is responsible for minerals resource management on over 1.76 billion acres of the Outer Continental Shelf. Presently 43 million acres are leased to private industry for oil/gas development. Production from these accounts for almost 30% of the Nation's domestic production of crude oil and 17% of its natural gas.
