NEW RESEARCHES MAY INDICATE RELATIONSHIP OF TRIASSIC-JURASSIC ROCKS IN THE UNITED STATES AND COLOMBIA: FAR FROM RHETORIC, CLOSER TO REALITY
Several geological areas were visited and the geologist found Triassic-Jurassic rocks in areas like La Guajira, Cesar, Santander, and Boyacá in Colombia and several regions of U.S. like NJ, NY, CT, and FL. In addition, literature review and oral communications regarding PA, VA, NC, SC, and GA areas with Triassic-Jurassic rocks, have showed the similarity of rocks at the NE edge of the United States with the rocks of the central part of Colombia as a Western continental margin of South America during Mesozoic.
Research is based on field trips, X-ray Fluorescence analysis, Geiger's Scentillometer, sedimentology, thin sections, and gravimetric interpretation (Bouguer's maps.) Results from geochemistry are approaching in order to continue because it has been a continuous process of investigation.
Newark Supergroup rocks were deposited in 21 syrnrift basins. In Colombia are around 8 large synrift basins. Actually, two areas are explored adequately at the North region such as Perija Ridge and Santander Mountains. It is necessary to analyze the South regions. The Amazon jungle must be explored for the near future because it was apparently misclassified both in Colombia and Peru.
