REPTILE TRACKS IN THE TIMPOWEAP MEMBER, MOENKOPI FORMATION (TRIASSIC), WASHINGTON COUNTY, UTAH
Small reptile tracks have been found in the Timpoweap Member of the Moenkopi Formation (lower Triassic) approximately two miles west of Virgin City, Washington County, Utah. The Timpoweap is a muddy limestone that appears to represent a tidal flat in this area. The tracks were recovered from a "mud" puddle the animals (at least two) were crossing. One, five cm wide by five cm long, track is excellent, but the others were smeared as the animals slid in the "mud".
A literature search yielded no reported tracks from the Timpoweap in this vicinity. The tracks do not closely resemble any tracks reported in the literature. This appears to be a new genus.
