PRELIMINARY COMPILATION OF RECENT MAPPING IN THE SANTA FE AREA
New detailed geologic mapping in the Santa Fe area at scales of 1:12k and 1:24k has refined our understanding of the basin-bounding structures and basin fill. Particular emphasis was placed on delineating fault and fracture zones that are very important conduits for ground water flow and recharge, especially for aquifers in rocks with otherwise low hydraulic conductivity. A considerable body of subsurface information from wells, geophysical studies (gravity and aeromagnetic work), and new or recent geochronology has also aided our interpretation of subsurface structure and basin development.
This poster with maps and cross sections will show the preliminary results of a compilation of current mapping and subsurface interpretation from serveral NMBMMR Open-file geologic maps.
