DATA FROM FOSSIL WOODS
General relationships between wood anatomical features and ecology are well-known for extant angiosperm trees. The characteristics of the diverse wood assemblage of the Clarno Nut Beds contrast with the Vantage Fossil Forests, and are consistent with what would be expected with the climate changes that occurred from Middle Eocene to Miocene. Data from the Clarno Formation woods together with data from other plant parts increase our knowledge of the plant diversity of the Tertiary.
