WATER QUALITY IN THE RIO GRANDE

BELZER, Wayne, Clean Rivers Program, Int'l Boundary and Water Commission, 4171 N. Mesa, suite C-310, El Paso, TX 79902, waynebelzer@ibwc.state.gov

The Rio Grande provides drinking water for many communities along the Texas - Mexico border. In many areas, it is the only source of potable water. The quality of the water is a major concern in this area and is affected by many different sources, man-made and natural. The quality of the water and the issues impacting the river vary with region. The Texas Clean Rivers Program, with the help of many organizations, continuously monitors the river and assesses water quality data to identify potential problems and recommend solutions.
