Using remotely sensed digital images captured by the high altitude Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper, published geological map data, and mineralized location data from the Idaho Geological Survey, an evaluation was undertaken to relate the location of known mineralization to structures and interpreted linear features. The digital data for the Coeur d’Alene Mining District was processed using directional high-pass convolution filters applied to various thematic band ratios as well as more conventional false color imaging methods. Known structures, mineralized locations, and interpreted lineaments were compiled in a GIS. Numerous lineaments at various scales were identified, some parallel to known structures and others not readily correlative. Further analysis of the clusters of mineralization along specific lineaments and lineament intersections offer direction for the identification of new potential areas of mineralization.
