SURVEYING DEBRIS FLOW VELOCITIES IN CHALK CREEK CANYON, COLORADO
A recent debrtis flow in Chalk Creek Canyon, Colorado leaves behind fesh mud lines, marking superelevation height of material within the channel. Superelevation makes possible the calculation of relative flow velocities, which have been correlated in this study with the extrapolated radius of curvature of sections of the debris flow channel. Using survey methods and instruments, velocities have been calculated at 4.06 m/s to 12.6 m/s.
