The 1:24000 cooperative geologic mapping program between the Kentucky Geological Survey and the U.S. Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.) was completed in 1979. This poster uses ArcView 3.3 to present a database of 13,948 records for the paleontological information contained in the lithologic descriptions that accompany the stratigraphic columns for the 707 geologic quadrangle maps of Kentucky. A single file contains a specific reference to a species, genus, class, phylum or any mention of fossils in the lithologic description of the 619 formation or members that were mapped. Generic and or specific identifications make up 3,938 files from 90 quadrangles that contain U.S.G.S. fossil collection localities. Examples of three files for the Ford Geologic Quadrangle map are shown below.

This database can be used to produce printouts of species identified from the U.S.G.S. fossil localities and printouts of paleontological data on a formation or a quadrangle basis. Paleontological data can also be plotted on a state map by quadrangle location. At present the specific geographic locations for the U.S.G.S. collection sites are not a part of the data base and must be obtained from visual inspection of the quadrangle in question.
