EVIDENCE OF POST TRIASSIC IMPACT IN THE PANHANDLE OF TEXAS AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO

Rocks collected from several locations in the Panhandle of Texas and Eastern New Mexico were examined in thin section for characteristics of high intensity impact. Those rocks were sampled from subtle geologic structures previously interpreted as sedimentary structures or penecontemporaneous karst topography related structures. Impact characteristics noted in the rock samples suggest the structures are better interpreted as impact related. Stratigraphy and paleontology place the region among probable locations of K/T impact.
