SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING IN HYDROGEOLOGY
The past three or four decades have seen a rapid development of remote sensing technology. Earth observation from space has been successfully applied to many topics in the geosciences. Hydrogeologists have been comparatively slow to embrace satellite sensors as tools in their work. However, many parameters and processes that hydrogeologists are interested in can be related to those directly observable by satellite sensors through hydrogeological or geophysical models. Current and future satellite missions hold an exciting potential for hydrogeological applications. The talk will review some interesting recent uses of satellite data in hydrogeologic applications and attempt an outlook into the future.
