PROPOSAL PREPARATION FOR NATIONAL PARKS GEOSCIENCE PROJECTS

BENBOW, Ann E., Education and Outreach, American Geol Institute, 4220 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302, aeb@agiweb.org

The National Parks are a rich venue for geoscience education projects and programs. They offer opportunities for multigenerational workshops, field trips, camping trips and a variety of other geoscience learning programs. Unfortunately, all of these programs require some level of funding to get them off the ground and ensure their sustainability. A combination of grant funding and strong partnerships with non-Parks organizations is a powerful formula for garnering support for National Parks programs. This session will focus on the strategies and techniques necessary to identify potential project partners, locate viable sources of multi-year grant funding and craft successful proposals to leverage that funding. The session will also address practical aspects of working with partner organizations such as non-profits, museums, school districts and schools of higher education.
