AN ENRICHMENT PROGRAM IN PALEONTOLOGY FOR THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS AT THE CLINTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN CLINTON, NEW YORK
A six-week enrichment program in paleontology was designed and implemented for third and fourth grade students in the Clinton Elementary School in Clinton, New York. The curriculum focused on preservation, plants, invertebrates, dinosaurs and Pleistocene megafauna. The lessons were self-constructed and included hands-on matierial, worksheets and discussions to encourage participation. The program was designed for elementary-age students to learn about paleontology and gain an appreciation of geology by engaging in interactive science exploration.
