PETROLOGIC AND GEOCHEMICAL ANALYSES OF INDEPENDENCE DIKE SWARM IN BLUE BELL MINE AREA, SODA MOUNTAINS, CALIFORNIA
Bedrock geology of Blue Bell Mine area within the Soda Mountains, San Bernardino County, California was mapped in 2003-2004. Calc-Alkaline Dikes were observed cross-cutting through hydrothermally altered rhyolitic and metamorphic country rocks. Investigations of bulk geochemistry, petrology, and strike revealed that they are likely related to the regional Late Jurassic Independence Dike Swarm (IDS) event. Bulk geochemical compositions of dike rocks around Blue Bell Mine are similar to published geochemistry of the IDS. Petrologic investigation revealed similar textures and minerals. Northwest strike orientations are also consistent with published data. Dikes in the Blue Bell Mine area have not been previously recognized as related to the IDS event.
