GROUNDWATER AVAILABILITY MODELS AS MANAGEMENT TOOLS

BRADY, Ray, Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District, Box 637, White Deer, TX 79097, rmbrady@panhandlegroundwater.org

The Texas GAM models have been developed and used extensively for Regional water supply purposes. Most models are used for water supply analysis or contaminant fate and transport analysis. The Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District is using the Texas Region A GAM as a basis for depletion management by combining the original GAM data network with GIS generated information. The basic aquifer properties included in the GAM have been supplementd with addition land use, aquifer properties, and management data with GIS to determine appropriate conservation measures for subdivisions of the Groundwater Conservation District. The combined tools complement each other and enable the District to determine which management strategies to recommend to the Board of Directors.
