ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN

, cekstrom@rhodes.edu

Rhodes College has partnered with a neighboring, low income community to increase the educational opportunities for both the college and K-8 students. Numerous projects have been developed: Science Saturdays, chess club, tutoring/mentoring programs, Great Strides, and several service learning courses. In one of these courses, Environment Geology, college students work with middle school students in a program called SWEEP, Storm Water Enviornmental Education Program. Together they investigate various aspects of the hydrologic cycle in the neighborhood. The project culminates in the presentation of research by each of the two groups at a special session of the college's Undergraduate Research Symposium.
