COUPLED CLIMATE SIMULATIONS OF THE LATE PALEOZOIC
Climate simulations of the Late Paleozoic using the Community Climate System Model will be presented. Simulations with various levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide have been carried out with this fully coupled model. Results from both cold icehouse and warm greenhouse climates will be presented. These global simulations provide a unique opportunity to understand the climates of this time period. We will focus on surface temperature, precipitation and wind patterns that are relevant for regional climates and dust sources. Results of the ocean circulation will also be provided to show regions of upwelling as potential sources of biologic activity in the Late Paleozoic. We also wish to use this as an opportunity to announce to the geologic community the appointment of a deep time liaison at NCAR to facilitate interactions between deep time climate modeling and the deep time geologic community.
