Arc Geology version 2 (AG2) is a simple and flexible geodatabase design for digital geological maps, informed by GeoSciML; it is currently implemented on Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS™ and companion products. A specific use of AG2 is to support field-mapping with ESRI ArcPad™ on a PDA device, such as the Hewlett-Packard iPAQ™. In this application, AG2 can be easily integrated with software that facilitates field data collection, verbal and textual notetaking, and photography. Together with a wireless GPS, the complete field system costs ~$1,200. This presentation demonstrates the AG2 field system in a simulated mapping exercise, with results uploaded to a desktop ArcGIS system also running AG2.
