We are entering an era when 3D visualization technology will become as standard as 2D web browsers are today. NASA World Wind is standards-based, open source technology oriented to stimulate innovation. Just as public highways built for the common good opened up huge opportunities for society, so too NASA World Wind serves our country's needs as a public domain 3D visualization highway.

World Wind has millions of users; with special interest coming from Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, Exploration, Conservation, Homeland Security, etc. World Wind also has an active open source programmer community and averages 10,000 to 30,000 downloads per day. Current distribution is estimated at well over 20 million.

DOE's National Nuclear Security Agency competitively selected NASA World Wind as the visualization platform of choice and asked the NASA Ames World Wind team to refactor the software into an API-centric cross-platform SDK solution. Today we are demonstrating that cross platform solution World Wind Java (WWJ).

Growth of innovation is accelerated by open standards and cross platform access, which together provide extraordinary opportunities for custom development. Propagation of the geosciences will be benefited extraordinarily.
