PALMER Jr, R. Hayne, United Consulting, 625 Holcomb Bridge Road, Norcoss, GA 30071, hpalmer@unitedconsulting.com

Geotechnical Engineering consulting companies provide geologist with many opportunities to perform multiple tasks investigating rock, classifying or testing soils, helping identify and mitigate geologic hazards, analyze lake siltation, and conduct environmental investigations to determine the extent and severity of contamination in the public and private sectors. Geologists perform the majority of this work in relation to development and construction related projects.

Geologists working in the engineering community are relied upon to perform testing and investigations based on seismic refraction and shear wave techniques, SPT auger borings, down-hole logging, geologic mapping, surface geophysics and a variety of other techniques including blast monitoring, rock qualification and quantification, drilled shaft inspections and much more. Geologists may hold positions as varied as field technicians, field Geologists, Professional Staff and Executive level and will interact with local citizens and government representatives. Projects range from bridges to landfills to quarries and major commercial and industrial developments.
