ONGOING COMPILATION OF OUR GEOLOGIC MAPPING IN THE BLUE RIDGE AND PIEDMONT OF GEORGIA

HIGGINS, Michael W., The Geologic Mapping Institute, 1752 Timber Bluff Drive, Clayton, GA 30525-6011 and CRAWFORD, Ralph F., The Geologic Mapping Institute, 1297 Briardale Lane, Atlanta, GA 30306, mhiggins@mindspring.com

We have compiled our geologic mapping over the past 32 years in the Blue Ridge and Piedmont in Georgia into 1:100,000-scale maps. This compilation in ESRI's ArcMap 9.2 covers all or parts of the Dalton, Cartersville, Atlanta, Griffin, Athens, and Thomaston Quadrangles. It spans from the Valley and Ridge province (or foreland fold and thrust tectonic belt) across the western Blue Ridge, Allatoona allochthon (which rests on the Allatoona fault above the western Blue Ridge), Dog River Window (where western Blue Ridge is exposed from beneath the Allatoona allochthon), Brevard fault zone, Inner Piedmont, south to part of the Pine Mountain window, and east into the Carolina Terrane. Most of the geologic mapping in the Atlanta and Cartersville Quadrangles is detailed enough to be published at 1:24,000-scale, whereas most of the mapping in the other quadrangles is detailed reconnaissance. The scale for presentation of this ongoing compilation will be determined by the size of the poster-board.
