GEOLOGIC MAP OF THE BLUE RIDGE IN GEORGIA, SOUTHERNMOST APPALACHIANS: PART I ALABAMA STATE LINE TO MIDDLE NORTH GEORGIA

HIGGINS, Michael W., The Geologic Mapping Institute, 1752 Timber Bluff Drive, Clayton, GA 30525-6011 and CRAWFORD, Ralph F., The Geologic Mapping Institute, 1297 Briardale Lane, Atlanta, GA 30306, mhiggins@mindspring.com

Our compilation of geologic mapping over the past 50 years by ourselves and others has resulted in a new look at the Blue Ridge in Georgia. This map at a scale of 1:100,000, on a base compiled from 1:24,000-scale 7.5-min quadrangles, covers the area from the frontal Blue Ridge thrust faults (Talladega-Cartersville, Lost Town Creek-Salacoa, Miller Cove) to the Brevard fault zone. The geologic mapping, including available structure measurements, has been compiled into ESRI’s ArcView. Major features in the map are: the Allatoona allochthon; the northwestern and southeastern traces of the Allatoona fault; the Dog River window; the Mulberry Rock culmination in the Allatoona fault; and the Dahlonega fault zone. Interpretations are ours and may not coincide with those of the original authors/mappers. Part I of the map is from the Alabama State Line to 34o 37' 30".
