Obtaining federal funds for research is highly competitive and requires researchers to conduct evaluations of their projects. This session discusses the components of a comprehensive evaluation that includes assessments of the implementation and outcomes of a project. The model has been successfully used in numerous National Science Foundation grants and Department of Education grants, including a current NSF OEDG grant in geosciences. The session presents the evaluation model, examples of assessment approaches and instruments, and tips on how to select an external evaluator. In addition, the results of the current NSF OEDG grant will be presented.
