A POSSIBLE METEORITE FIND IN SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS

NELLIS, David A., 43 Col. Mansfield Dr, Scituate, MA 02066, dnellis005@yahoo.com

Numerous (possible) meteorite fragments were discovered by two residences of on Martha's Vineyard from 2005 to 2008. This author has examined microscopically 30+ individual fragments of that find. They exhibit several physical properties associated with meteorites such as: fusion crusts, high specific gravities (3.5 to 4.2), magnetism, regmaglypts, chondrules(?), outward (convex) curvature on most fusion crust surfaces, flow lines, that have been altered to wave shape in cross-section,(possible indication of rotation upon entering the Earth's atmosphere), and 8. an octahedrite texture that may be indicative of Widmansttaten figures (Norton, ROCKS FROM SPACE,2nd Ed., pp 219-224).

It should be pointed out that testing/examination is ongoing and more definitive information may/should be available at the time of the presentation.
