We mapped the surficial deposits in the Hilgard Mountain quadrangle during the summer of 2008 as part of an EDMAP grant. The quadrangle includes areas that are part of the northern Fish Lake Plateau in central Utah. Interpretation of field observations, aerial photos, satellite images, and digital orthophoto quads allowed for fifteen mappable Quaternary units to be designated. Important Quaternary features in the quadrangle include glacial deposits in the upper UM Creek drainage , rock glaciers north of the UM Plateau, a large mass movement deposit near Water Flat, numerous mass movement deposits along the slopes of Sheep Valley, and deep fluvial incision exposing Cretaceous/Tertiary sedimentary rocks in Red Creek Hole.
