GOLD EXPLORATION USING MOBILE METAL IONIZATION, MARIGOLD MINE, NORTHERN NEVADA
Mobile Metal Ionization (MMI) is a geochemical exploration method based on ion migration from an oxidized ore deposit. An extensive MMI survey was conducted at Goldcorp's Marigold mine in northern Nevada to identify potential gold exploration targets. Samples were collected over known deposits to serve as standards before the method was applied to untested areas. This study identifies strengths and weaknesses of the MMI method, outlines ideal conditions for its use, indicates the most effective sampling procedures, and shows the overall effectiveness of the method, focusing on a statistical approach applied to deposits underlying deep pediments and correlation with drilling. The study concludes that MMI is an effective exploration method for the Marigold mine.
