EXPLORING THE GEOLOGY OF GLACIER NATIONAL PARK: BRINGING GEOLOGY TO LIFE WITH VIEWS OF THE NATIONAL PARKS
Views of the National Parks (Views) is a multimedia educational program developed in partnership with the National Park Service Office of Education and Outreach and the University of Colorado Denver School of Education and Human Development. The program presents the stories of national parks in a manner where online users can virtually experience treasured American places, such as Glacier National Park, from their home, classroom, or mobile device. Utilizing technology, Views synthesizes the abundant natural and cultural resource information available through the national park system and packages it in a format accessible to the general public, as well as teachers and students in classrooms nationwide.
Through a Geologist in the Park position, seated in the National Park Service Geologic Resources Division, a Views module will be created for Glacier National Park to recognize the park's 100 years of preservation, education, and inspiration. Via text, images, diagrams, interactive displays, and video, the module will foster a better understanding of the park's landscape and the geologic processes that shaped it.
Based on the Geologic Resource Evaluation (GRE) report done for the park by the National Park Service, the Views module will be useful for training park staff, particularly seasonal employees and interpreters. It will include panoramic videos, interviews, interactive maps, and stunning imagery that is characteristic of the park.
