GEOLOGICAL WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS ON MIDDLE BUFFALO RIVER, TYLER BEND TO GILBERT, NORTH-CENTRAL ARKANSAS

DOERR, Erica L. and SMART, Erin, Arkansas Geological Survey, 3815 West Roosevelt Rd, Little Rock, AR 72204, erica.doerr@arkansas.gov

The Buffalo National River is one of the many amazing natural resources in the state of Arkansas. The river is an ideal setting for outdoor classroom activities. The Arkansas Geological Survey is currently completing a geological float trip guidebook from Tyler Bend to Gilbert, with an emphasis on science frameworks for teachers in Arkansas. Educators will now have the opportunity to learn about geology as they canoe alongside Mississippian through Upper Ordovician age rocks. Teachers will gain a basic understanding of geological principals and discover modern stream processes and morphology. Additionally, this guidebook will be available online along with supplemental activities and a virtual geological tour using Google Earth that can be presented in the classroom.
