A current term project for a college level geoscience course, Coastal Geology & Environmental Oceanography, was enhanced for future use of the project. The term project asks students to create a geologic guidebook through an in depth study of the coastal geology, natural history and environmental oceanography of specific localities on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Modifications to the nine locations in the original project and the addition of two new site localities, resulted in this improved exercise. This case study into Cape Cod's glaciated coast allows for a comprehensive study of the wide range of coastal systems, physical processes and environmental concerns present. Through scientific writing and research, students integrate and apply their knowledge learned throughout the course to this specific peninsula of land. Although implemented in the Coastal Geology end Environmental Oceanography course at Hamilton College, this exercise can be modified for an introductory course for any environmental or oceanography courses at the college undergrad level or for an advanced secondary level class.
