Classic Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide Deposits of the Southern Canadian Shield **CANCELLED**

Primary Leader: George J. Hudak III
Leader(s): Mark Smyk
Field Trip Description: This field trip will investigate the mineralization, structural geology, geochronology, physical volcanology, metamorphosed hydrothermal alteration, and interpreted tectonic environments associated with three classic volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits located in Lake Superior region of the southern Canadian Shield: 1) the Geco Deposit, located near Manitouwadge, Ontario; 2) the Winston Lake deposit, located near Schreiber, Ontario; and 3) the Mattabi, F-Group, Sturgeon Lake, and Lyon Lake deposits, located near Ignace, Ontario. These deposits exhibit a variety of igneous, structural, metamorphic, mineralization, and syngenetic hydrothermal alteration characteristics that illustrate key components whose recognition is necessary for efficient and effective mineral exploration.
Field Trip will span: 5 days
Sponsor(s): Society of Economic Geology; Precambrian Research Center
