RET - WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?

HOPKINS, Jenelle, Science Department, Centennial High School, 10200 Centennial Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89149, JHopk67328@aol.com

This presentation will offer insights into the two summers I spent in the Engineering Geophysics Lab at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Engineering on an NSF Research for Teachers (RET) Grant Program. From recruitment to payback, I will outline what were the pluses and minuses of the experience – both for me and for my professor mentor and her graduate students – and how the program goals of linking secondary science teachers with university research programs impacted my classroom teaching and a college professor's perception of K-12 education.
