THE EVOLUTION OF DATA MANAGEMENT IN THE GEOSCIENCES

This presentation will explore the changing roles of participants in data management from the earliest times to today. While the scientific process itself may be largely the same today, the actions required have changed substantially. From librarians, computer science professionals, and institutional managers to researchers and research support staff, everyone has a piece of the data management responsibility. This presentation is part primer, part forecast for how data management is changing and how those changes open new possibilities for scientific discovery.
