Paper No. 4
Presentation Time: 9:00 AM

ON TEACHING A TOTALLY BLIND STUDENT PHYSICAL AND HISTORICAL GEOLOGY

NEUHAUSER, Kenneth, Department of Geosciences, Fort Hays State University, 415 Lyman Drive, Hays, KS 67601, kneuhaus@fhsu.edu

Teaching the salient points of both physical and historical geology to a totally blind student was accomplished through a very short-time pre-planning window, extra staff, continual daily preparation, low-cost supplies, team work, and at times, ‘on-the-spot’ creativity. Challenges to teaching Structural Geology, Geologic Field Methods, and Geology Field Camps will also be addressed.
