HYDE, Deborah, Northeastern State University, 601 N Grand Ave, Tahlequah, OK 74464, hyded@nsuok.edu

July, 2010 at Sequoyah High School, one hundred fifty Native American students, aged twelve to eighteen years were chosen to participate in Camp Cherokee. This week-long camp was the brain child of two Cherokee Nation Educational Outreach employees. The author participated in the STEM portion of the camp as an instructor of a course called "Native Approach to Science." Students were introduced to a wide variety of natural science topics using both laboratory and field experiences in small group settings.
