HYDROGEOLOGY: A CAREER

MITCHELL, Mark D., 4080 Deerwood Pkwy, Smyrna, GA 30082, mmitchell@genproject.com

The role of geology in human history has always been involved in the understanding and development of the earth’s natural resources. The field is responsible for the discovery and use of raw materials that affect almost every aspect of life. But one of the most precious resources society possesses is one that is most often taken for granted, and that resource is potable water. Without water, societies and civilizations cannot survive.

There are many employment opportunities in the field of hydrogeology that are critical for society and focus on the management and protection of this vital resource. These fields vary from the exploration, and management of these resources to environmental protection. The field employs field geologists, hydrogeologists, groundwater modelers, geophysicists and hydrologists that work for both government agencies and in private industry.
