Hydraulic fracturing is an engineering process used to access previously unreachable reservoirs of oil and gas. "Fracking" has generated a broad spectrum of interest, debate, speculation, and opportunities, as evidenced by a significant growth in publishing and reporting, from the peer-reviewed petroleum engineering literature to newspaper articles and scripts of prime-time television dramas. This study examines trends in publishing on hydraulic fracturing, including databases, journals, publishers, and websites that focus on its geological, engineering, and environmental aspects.
