SCHEDULING APPROACHES FOR ACCOMODATING NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS

HYDE, Deborah, Northeastern State University, 601 N Grand Ave, Tahlequah, OK 74464, hyded@nsuok.edu

Students of our regional university system in Oklahoma face a variety of challenges on the way to successfully completing their four-year degrees. Unlike the traditional 18-22 year-old college students who enter higher education directly after high school, the majority of students the author encounters have to balance family, work and other obligations in addition to their academic endeavors.

This presentation will discuss a variety of alternative course presentation methods with focus centered on assisting the busy schedules of non-traditional students and their special considerations. On-going research centered on a student collaborative course re-design project will also be included in the presentation.
